From 1 July, the new QCTO qualifications will replace these SAQA unit standards.
QCTO qualifications are typically more expensive and take longer to complete.
Learners are encouraged to complete the SAQA unit standard route before the enrolment cut-off date.
DURATION
ZOOM (Blended Learning) – ±3–4 days online, with scheduled live sessions guided by an experienced facilitator.
eLearning – Fully online and self-paced. You may start, pause, and resume at any time.
Learning is primarily video-based with structured activities and assignment submissions.
When completed part-time, most learners complete this programme within 10–14 days.

TrainYouCan continuously submits verification requests to the ETDP SETA.
Turnaround times depend on ETDP SETA availability and may range from 6 weeks to 4 months.

(ETDP SETA) Accredited Training Network and its members are committed to complying with all ETQA requirements as stipulated by SAQA.
This combined programme equips learners with the knowledge and practical skills required to
design outcomes-based education (OBE) learning programmes and develop aligned learning material.
It is ideal for facilitators, trainers, learning material developers, instructional designers,
training providers, and organisations developing accredited or internal training programmes.
The unit standards focus on aligning learning outcomes, assessment criteria, learning activities,
and learner guides in accordance with SAQA and ETQA requirements.
The qualifying learner is capable of:
- Interpreting unit standards, outcomes, and assessment criteria;
- Designing outcomes-based learning programmes aligned to SAQA requirements;
- Developing learner-centred, outcomes-based learning material;
- Ensuring alignment between learning outcomes, activities, and assessment evidence;
- Applying adult learning principles and inclusive learning practices;
- Reviewing and improving learning material for quality and relevance.
COURSE SUMMARY
In particular, people credited with these unit standards are able to:
- Design outcomes-based learning programmes by analysing unit standards, outcomes, and learner needs.
- Develop learning material that supports learner engagement, understanding, and achievement of outcomes.
- Align learning, assessment, and evidence requirements to ensure compliance with SAQA/ETQA expectations.
- Apply adult learning principles to support diverse learning styles and contexts.
- Collect and evaluate information to improve learning material quality and effectiveness.
- Use technology to design digital learning resources, guides, and supporting material.
Note: Any person wishing to offer accredited learning material or programmes may only do so with a valid
SOR (Statement of Results) issued by the ETDP SETA. No other certificate may be used, even if it reflects
the same unit standards.
ENROLMENT REQUIREMENTS
- Learners must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Experience in training, facilitation, HR, or learning development is recommended.
- Basic computer literacy is required for online learning.
Basically, you must be able to read and write in English!
METHODS OF LEARNING
This course is offered through:
- eLearning – Self-paced online learning with videos, templates, examples, and assignment-based evidence submission.
Ideal for learners who require flexibility. - ZOOM (Blended Learning) – Live online sessions with a facilitator on scheduled dates, combined with
independent design work and portfolio submission between sessions.
How eLearning works: You receive access to the learning platform and complete the course at your own pace,
designing learning programmes and material using provided templates and guidance, and submitting evidence online.
How ZOOM blended learning works: You attend scheduled interactive sessions where the facilitator guides you
through programme and material design, followed by independent work and submission between sessions.
